The 3 Rules for Marketing and Branding as an Agent

There is definitely no shortage of real estate agents in the world. I think one of the few things that are certain in the modern world, aside from death and taxes, is real estate. It is in human nature to move; to change location and re-settle somewhere else. Whether it’s another dwelling in the same city or half way across the world, people will always move. And that’s where we come in.

As an agent, you are constantly trying to position yourself as the best in your field. But, do you know what’s even more important than being the best? Being the best known.

The most important part of this business, and what’s even senior to sales, is being able to properly and effectively market and brand yourself.

I hate to say it, but even if you are currently working at marketing and branding yourself, you probably aren’t doing it right. At least not yet.

Rule Number One: You will fail if you don’t promote your business.

I know ‘fail’ is the second worst f-words, but unfortunately if you don’t promote your business, you will most likely fail, and then you’re basically f#$@ed.

In this modern world of technology that we live in, the best known always beats the best product. I know this can feel a little bit depressing, but this doesn’t stop you from conquering both.

Get your name out there and get people to know your business. In this day and age, the more people know who you are, the more business you will receive and ultimately, the more successful you will be. You can still be the best and the best known. There’s no stopping you then!

Rule Number Two: Master Your Personal Brand

The goal in real estate, as with other businesses is to attract clients instead of chasing them down. You want to get away from cold calling and have business leads appear in your inbox.

You know that saying, “work so you don’t have to introduce yourself” that’s exactly what we, as agents, strive for.

The best way to attract new clients and avoid having to chase them is to get your name out there. The reason that your business is most likely to fail is because people don’t know who you are. How can potential clients work with you if they don’t even know you exist?

Before a client can trust you or work with you, they need to be aware of your business. That’s where marketing and branding will come in. When it comes down to it, this should really be a no-brainer and is obviously the most important rule in marketing and branding as an agent.

Rule Number Three: Don’t be like everyone else.

I’m going to be blunt. Your business is probably not very unique. The real estate market is so saturated with agents, and especially with the introduction of social media, it can be almost impossible to stand out and be completely different than all those other agents who are basically just like you.

What’s so key to building a genuine, human, and authentic brand in this business is ensuring your brand essence and image is based around YOU. You need to get personal. It’s not just about people knowing you, it’s letting people get to know who you are.

Establishing a personal, unique brand is the way of the modern world and ultimately, the only way you are going to survive and thrive in this business.

One of the most important aspects of this business is getting out there and being seen. In order to do that, you need to make sure you are marketing and branding yourself properly and effectively and that includes taking the time to build a brand that reflects who you really are and shows off not just your unique traits as an Agent, but also as a person – build a genuine, human and authentic brand that people can connect with.

Marketing and branding won’t be a quick fix for a struggling business, it is something you need to build and establish over time. Marketing and branding is an investment and require serious patience to build and perfect over time.

When you promote yourself with authenticity as a foundation, have your business and brand provide value and build genuine, human connections, and allow yourself to be vulnerable — people will feel like they really know you, and eventually begin to like you and trust you, and will be that much more likely to do business with you.
